Very nice, but...! Jun 27, 2005

I don't like any attention drawn to me, whatsoever at Mass. So when i got this missal, I was a little mortified by how huge it was. I spent about 2 weeks self-consious about people looking at me and my giant book.
However, I have grown very close to it. There are four beautiful ribbons, which are more than enough! And it has great commentary at the beginning of each day's readings! It is NAB Translation which is a huge plus.
Its an excellent missal. Just prepare yourself for the size.

I've seen the Vatican II Weekday Missal -- it seems to be the missal of choice for my church's weekday Masses. Be warned; the missal is only slightly slimmer than the Chicago telephone book, and major feasts and solemnities (not only holy days of obligation but any votive Mass having three readings) are not in this volume but in the companion Sunday Missal. That said, it is a good clear missal.

It IS bulky, but it is definitely worth it anyway. I really like the reflections they give for each day that go along with the readings for the day. (The Vatican II Sunday Missal has these, too, and I have and really like the Sunday Missal as well.) I am a lector at my church, and this missal helps me to prepare for daily readings.

I purchased the Vatican II Sunday Missal several years ago and was very satisfied with my purchase. Recently, when I decided to go to Mass everyday, I decided to buy the Weekday Missal as well. I purchased it for the same reasons that I bought the Sunday Missal: I wanted to have my own personal copy to study at home. I didn't like handling the pew copy since so many people (with colds, flu) handle it. It is a great bargain since it lasts for years!

This is what I needed for daily mass. Our church no longer uses a missal that includes the readings, only the propers. I wanted to follow along, so this it.
It's a bit bulky and can be confusing, but I have been figuring out where to place the ribbons the night before. That's made it easier to use.
