| | Description | We had to do it. We had to reprint this book. Rarely has a book had such an impact on so many of us here at Ignatius Press. It is one of the most powerful and moving books we have come across. If you can only buy one book this season, this must be the one. Here is the astonishing true story of the harrowing experiences of a young German seminarian drafted into Hitler's dreaded SS at the onset of World War II. Without betraying his Christian ideals, against all odds, and in the face of Evil, Gereon Goldmann was able to complete his priestly training, be ordained, and secretly minister to German Catholic soldiers and innocent civilian victims caught up in the horrors of war. How it all came to pass will astound you. Father Goldmann tells of his own incredible experiences of the trials of war, his many escapes from almost certain death, and the diabolical persecution that he and his fellow Catholic soldiers encountered on account of their faith. What emerges is an extraordinary witness to the workings of Divine Providence and the undying power of love, prayer, faith, and sacrifice. Illustrated | |

TH E SHADOW OF HIS WINGS: STORY OF FR, GOLDMAN Aug 04, 2010 I PRAY THAT HIS LIFE STORY MAY CARRY ME THROUGH AN LIFE THAT IS TRULY GOD DRIVEN. I CAN ONLY PRAY THAT I AM ABLE TO MAINTAIN LESS THAN A MUSTARD SEED OF FAITH BECAUSE OF WHAT I HAVE LEARNED AND EXPERIENED BECAUSE OF HIS SIORY.
Gripping, inspiring, awesome Jul 25, 2010 There are not enough stars to describe this book. We often hear about the power of prayer, but rarely does one come across a testimony that bears such incredible witness to this truth: Pray to God the Father in the name of Jesus, and watch the impossible happen.

Review by TK Jun 27, 2010 Once you begin to read this book, you will not be able to put it down until it is finished. It is that good. Being Catholic and half German it is reassuring that Catholicism was not dead in Nazi Germany. The many miracles (and they could be no less) that surrounded Fr. Goldmann makes it clear that he was being spared to do something very special - and to bring comfort to those who were sick, wounded and dying, even under the worst of wartime condition. He truly must have brought comfort and friendship to so many. My dad is 86 now and I sent him this book for Father's Day. He has not sat down to read a book from cover to cover in many, many years. He finished it in two days and has since sent two copies to others. No one will be dissapointed with this book. Guaranteed.

Fantastic book! May 07, 2010 If you ever wanted to read a book showing the true power of God, this is it!!! It's amazing to me the series of events and miracles that led to salvation of souls in the middle of the horrific war. I couldn't stop reading this book.
Deserves to be a Classic of 20th Century Writing Nov 21, 2009 This book is one of the few that have changed my life - filling me with inspired passion and trusting resolve. I wish it would be read by anyone struggling with the boredom of life, with lethargy, lukewarmness or just ennui. And by anyone Catholic.
First of all though, this book is a ripping yarn. A riveting page-turner, a breathtaking adventure, a masterful biography, a spiritual journey. An astounding achievement in and of itself: A gripping story of the 20th century's fateful turn from God, and a Franciscan's struggle for the Love of God amid the horror of Nazi Germany and WWII, helped by the power of many, many devoted prayers - and divine grace.
But what is more, it is the true story of a life that is an even more astounding achievement, a testament to what true Christian faith can overcome, rely on, sow and reap.
Most highly recommended.
