Description

Fr. Benedict Groeschel, best-selling author and beloved spiritual teacher, writer, and psychologist, wrote this latest book for all those who have suffered great sorrow or catastrophe in their lives and for those close to such persons, who share their deep suffering. Sorrow comes into the life of every person, but only into the lives of some people comes catastrophe. These are disasters that occur either suddenly or with terrible effects, like the death of a child. They can be natural disasters like hurricanes, or they can be horrific accidents or tragedies caused by people's evil acts. They can also arise from wars and situations of great tension.

Fr. Benedict has written previously about faith and sorrow (Arise from Darkness) and seeks in this book to study catastrophes of all different kinds in relationship to our faith in divine providence, in God's goodness and mercy, and finally in the light of Christ's suffering and death. Christianity is the only religion which speaks of a God who suffered a terrible catastrophe-crucifixion and death. Therefore, the Christian must, in the midst of catastrophe, find his way to the foot of the cross, and there he will find answers which cannot be given by any other religious faith.

All religions attempt to deal with catastrophe, all confront the mystery of suffering and of evil. Christianity invites you to share the burden of your catastrophe with the person who is our Savior and Redeemer, one who Himself endured great pain and sorrow, the son of God, Jesus Christ.

5A deeply moving work of insurmountable faith  Jul 17, 2009 By Midwest Book Review
Spiritual director and psychologist Fr. Benedict J. Groeschel presents Tears of God: Persevering in the Face of Great Sorrow or Catastrophe, a guide for Christians to surviving and coping with times of great distress or loss. Offering prayers most suitable for weathering one's darkest hour, Tears of God looks to Christ's suffering and martyrdom as a source of wisdom and inspiration to all His followers. Amid terrible suffering, Christians are well served to remember Christ's ordeal on the cross, a powerful perspective and truth that no other religious faith can present. A deeply moving work of insurmountable faith, Tears of God is as profound as it is powerful.

3Don't expect a personal memoir  Aug 01, 2009 By Catholic priest
This author's effort at answering the question, "Why do bad things happen to good people?" and then "What to do?" "Salvifici doloris" by Pope John Paul II is a far better meditation on the nature and meaning of redemptive and salvific suffering. "Tears" contains some individual stories of unmerited human suffering, which the papal encyclical does not. Both focus on the central meaning for us of Jesus' suffering, death and resurrection. The compendium of prayers contained in the book during times of suffering is an eclectic, but helpful collection for many different personalities and prayer types. I was disappointed that the book only made tangential references to the author's own suffering and recovery.

5Must read for anybody living in or surviving catastrophe!  Nov 06, 2009 By JoyHopePeace
Fr. Groeschel shows great compassion for the struggles many people face.
He gently instructs us in God's love. Many catastrophes develop through
human failures. God is in our corner to help us through the struggle.
Fr. Groeschel shows us a way to develop virture while facing adversity
and helps us to see beyond the moment. Make this book a gift to yourself.

5Tears of God by Father Benedict Groeschel  Apr 29, 2009 By Leslie J. Holker "gypsy1m6"
This is a wonderful book (as far as I've read). I wish I could read it now, but cannot seem to comprehend at this point what I have read. My sister Kathy has been missing since April 16th, and they have charged the man she was last seen with in Texas with Capital murder. He will not tell us where she is. This book is the best book to have right now...and this is a real catastrophe for me and my family. I am hoping at some point soon I will be able to finish reading the book, because it will certainly be a big help in the days to come.

3Kindle Book for Tears of God  Dec 27, 2011 By Tish Gorman
While I love the content and subject of Tears of God, I have to say that I am less than impressed with the Kindle version of this book. I purchased the Kindle version to read to my husband while on trips and I have to say that the number of typographical errors in this ebook edition is ridiculous. I know that if this was the printed edition, it would never have gotten by the editors in this condition! I think that Amazon/Kindle needs to invest some dollars into making the ebook edition a QUALITY product, rather than have us pay money for something that looks like it was typed by a beginning typist!!
