| | Description | The Word is made fresh by the irrepressible Mother Angelica as she personally escorts you through the Scriptures, unearthing lessons for daily living--the perfect companion to the New York Times bestselling Mother Angelica's Little Book of Life Lessons and Everyday Spirituality.
The founder of the world's largest religious media empire shares her beloved wit and down-to-earth spirituality in MOTHER ANGELICA'S PRIVATE AND PITHY LESSONS FROM THE SCRIPTURES. Editor Raymond Arroyo draws on hundreds of never-before-released private lessons to present the renowned nun's definitive take on the Good Book. Angelica provides readers with guided meditations, probing personal questions, and reveals an often-overlooked practical spirituality. She doesn't just explain the stories, she relates them to our daily lives, helping even those who've never opened the Bible experience its power and life-altering lessons. The apostles Paul ("the little shrimp"), Peter ("that great bungler") and all the characters of the Scriptures are suddenly human again, complete with their foibles and triumphs. Here is the Greatest Story, newly told as only Mother Angelica can. The Bible and you will never be the same. A portion of the royalties from this book goes to support the work of Our Lady of the Angels Monastery | |

By Madonnaw Woods This book is great...I will reread it again. It is written like she talks on her TV show, EWTN, the chapters are quick, easy reading, and makes me stop and meditate. Thoroughly enjoyable book

Like a Spiritual Grandmother Nov 25, 2008
By Elizabeth A. Amer
For those days when nothing goes right or when everything goes right Mother Angelica is there to gently nudge you on your journey to Christ.
This book makes you place yourself in the moment with God from the safety of your grandmother's knee making the spiritual lessons feel like coming home.
I found myself shaking my head in amazement at how much Mother sees in the Scriptures and how blind I have been ... until now.
This book has helped me view my human imperfections from a new point of view and has allowed me to see that this is exactly the same point of view the Saints had of their own failings and misgivings.
Yes, the Apostles and other Saints really were human. And now I have a clearer understanding of the struggles they felt in their own spiritual journies even as they walked alongside Jesus.
Thank you Mother Angelica and God Bless you!

Mother Angela Private nd Pithy Lessons From Scripture Nov 16, 2008
By Antoinette Rose
"Toni"
Mother Angelica is her usual straight to the point commentator on the scripture. She makes it fun learning about scripture and brings it down to a practicable level. This is a book that makes learning about scripture fun, brings a fresh point of few to scripture, and gives you valuable information about interpretation of scripture.

Powerful Story - Jan 12, 2010
By Loyd E. Eskildson
"Pragmatist"
Raymond Arroyo is the author of the biography of Mother Angelica. Mother Angelica gave the author a carte blanche for her life's story that reveals the background of a deeply religious, determined and strong individual.
Mother Angelica is the founder of the Eternal Word Television Network (EWTN). What is amazing is her powerful beliefs and ability to achieve, despite many physical and psychological handicaps. We see how closely tied she is to a mother who could not bear to see her only child go into a convent. Her own mother becomes a nun to be near her! Sister Angelica overcame personal demands, illnesses and negativity with her beliefs and perseverance. She was a cloistered nun that did not seem cloistered at all. Her achievements as a CEO in communications have been written up in media such as the Wall Street Journal.
When in high school, before becoming a nun, she took drafting courses, which helped her later overseeing construction of EWTN's new studio.
In 1981, when Ted Turner founded CNN, Mother Angelica, using her grit and beliefs, along with $200, founded what would become the world's largest religious media company.
She was born in 1923 to an Italian mother and father. She was named Rita Rizzo and abandoned by her father, who blamed her mother for getting pregnant after two years of marriage. Her mother was uneducated, but determined to keep her daughter, who was the focus of her life. Rita endured her mother's depressions, debt and her own physical ailments, which included intense stomach pains. Because by prayer, and inspiration from a local mystic, she became a cloistered nun, hoping to spend her life in private prayer away from a cruel world. But that was not to be. She soon became an international religious leader and founder of a religious network.
Rita (Mother Angelica) realized that her spirit, perseverance and need to spread the Catholic word, compelled her to monumental feats of faith and achievement. On faith alone, she built a communications empire without budgets - just "God's Providence". Her strong beliefs and personality brought both the poor and multi-millionaire followers that funded her "outrageous" inspirational callings that came to fruit. The EWTN is still going strong today with reruns of her daily teachings and quick wit continuing to play. Sister Angelica recently had a stroke, but she made sure that the EWTN network would sustain itself before she had to retire.
Raymond Arroyo writes with objectivity, and had more than five years of one-on-one discussions and interviews with Mother Angelica. The first few chapters are hard to read in that she had such a sad and tortured childhood. Her strong spirit comes through as she had to grow up fast and survive by finding good in all she meets. The book shows the power of faith. An inspiring story.
