Description

Mary, Mother Of The Son, the new three-volume set of books by author Mark P. Shea, takes the reader on a tour de force exploration of the Marian dimension of Catholic thought, life, prayer, and practice. These three volumes Modern Myths and Ancient Truth,First Guardian of the Faith, and Miracles, Devotion, and Motherhood will give you what you need to come to more fully appreciate Mary s role in your life and the life of the Church and to defend and explain her role to your non-Catholic (and even your Catholic) friends. In Volume One: Modern Myths and Ancient Truth you discover the fascinating way in which Mary emerges with profundity, beauty, and love from the pages of Scripture in the light of apostolic teaching. You probe how the gospel of Christ crowns and perfects, not only the Old Testament, but the deepest insights of the great non-Christian philosophies, religions, and myths. You learn how to read the Bible as the earliest Christians did and find out how Mary safeguards the deepest truths about Christ and his Church. In Volume Two: First Guardian of the Faith you will learn about the biblical and apostolic roots of Mary s title as Theotokos; as well as her Perpetual Virginity, Immaculate Conception, and Assumption into heaven. In addition, you will discover the astonishing relevance each of these teachings has, not only for the Christian believer, but for the twenty-first century as it comes to grips with such questions as the dignity, origin, and destiny of the human person. In Volume Three: Miracles, Devotion, and Motherhood you will explore the devotional life of the Church: a life which includes the communion of saints, the holy rosary, the mysteries of private revelation and Mary s God-given role as mother of all who believe in Christ.

5Best apologetics on Marian theology today  Apr 21, 2011 By HudsonGal "Bethany"
For the lay reader, these three volumes are THE best resource on Marian apologetics that I have come across. Shea writes particularly well to the Protestant reader and his Scriptural analysis is excellent. I highly recommend these books to anyone who wants to learn more about WHY the Catholic Church teaches what it does about our Blessed Mother.

2Better than most but incomplete  Oct 26, 2010 By deone emineth
I like Mark Shea but unfortunately, like so many other converts to catholocism he shows his hand too quickly for me to take him as a truly credible source on this subject.

I would encourage anyone interested in a more objective treatment of the subject to read Ratzinger.
