| | Description | On Good Friday, 1979, a television crew visited St. Agnes Church in New York to tape a news piece. They were so enthralled by the speaker, Bishop Fulton J. Sheen, they taped his entire talk. This long lost tape has now been found and digitally re-mastered. It is titled "His Last Words." Bishop Sheen died later that year. This is the Bishop at his best: in a pulpit, not a TV studio. It is a new Sheen experience seen here for the first time. The Bishop’s wit and wisdom transcend the years. His words remain a masterpiece of sacred prose and poetry. "It is not a unity of religion we seek but a union of religious people. We may not be able to meet in the same pew, but we can meet together on our knees as Christians." Rev. Billy Graham said of Sheen, "I greatly admired his ministry and his focus on Christ." Dr. Robert Schuller of the Crystal Cathedral wrote, "He was the first teacher from whom we all learned." Actor Martin Sheen chose his name from Bishop Sheen. The Holy Father used his tapes to practice English. The Bishop wrote 95 books and countless newspaper and magazine articles. He was an Emmy winner for his television program, "Life is Worth Living." For today’s troubled church, Bishop Sheen is a friend many are seeking to help guide their spiritual journey. With him, we see each sunrise as God’s radiant promise that life is worth living. "God love you." | |

HIS LAST WORDS Feb 27, 2004 DYNAMIC PRESENTATION OF THE GOOD BISHOP - IN A CHURCH PULIPIT - NOT A TV STUDIO - A FEW MONTHS BEFORE HE DIED. HE IS VIBRANT. THE EYES AND THE VOICE - SO FAMOUS IN THE 50'S - REMAIN JUST AS INTENSE. HIS MESSAGE IS ABOUT BEING A SPECTATOR AT THE CROSS ON CALVARY. HIS MESSAGE IS ALSO "THE PASSION" WHICH IS MAKING MOVIE HISTORY TODAY. SHEEN LOVERS - NEW CHRISTIANS - GET THIS. IT TOUCHES THE HEART.

Classic Bishop Sheen, New Perspective Jun 06, 2008
By Richard Snouffer Known to many for his popular TV shows as far back as the 1950's, this is a long-lost Good Friday sermon from Bishop Sheen's last Good Friday on this earth. It is an inspiring sermon, full of Bishop Sheen's wit, wisdom and theology. Like all of his work, it is faithful to the teachings of the Catholic Church.
The extra features on this DVD, while understandably not an eye-popper in this day of CG animation and million-dollar stunts, it does show interesting tidbits about his life, ministry, etc.
I highly recommend this for all Catholics. Most of his work should be on the "Must See" list for all Catholics.
However, during his lifetime, Bishop Sheen found a great following among non-Catholics too. His work was enjoyed by people as diverse as Rev. Billy Graham, Dr. Robert Schuller and actor Martin Sheen. In the 1950's, he even won an Emmy! Therefore, I can also recommend it for anyone who has had the pleasure of enjoying Bishop Sheen's work in the past, as well as theology students of any stripe.
God's Preacher Mar 20, 2011
By Emilio Edgardo A. Quilatan Bishop Fulton Sheen, now Servant of God, is one of the best communicators of God's Word in the 20th century. He preached God in the pulpit of the Church, in the radio, television and the print media. His sermons are steeped in God's Word confronting the modern world that is becoming God-less yet idolizing one's own freedom, and immoral yet legal. The Passion, Death and Resurrection of Christ are the main themes of his Good Friday Sermon in 1979. Bishop Sheen's Good Friday sermon reminds that we cannot appreciate the Resurrection of Christ by detaching Christ from the Cross. This is a good dvd source for retreats in this Lenten Season!
