| | Description | Alcoholism destroys lives and injures families. Fortunately there is hope! The time-tested wisdom and compassion of Bishop Fulton J. Sheen for those coping with alcoholism has been gathered in this special three-part collection of messages. Here Bishop Sheen offers solutions. The devastation and hurt can give way to healing through the Lord Jesus. Troubled lives can find peace. Sheen offers hope that alcoholism can be addressed if one reaches out for help from God as well as from family and friends. Sheen shows that one must be willing and search, but that once the Divine is introduced, we come to see how so often God is the God of a second chance. The titles of the three programs on this DVD are: 1. Drunkards and Alcoholics 2. Is Alcohol Just a Disease? 3. An Alcoholic Is Not a Pig Bishop Fulton John Sheen, Servant of God (1895-1979) Publisher: Vision Video Format: 81 minutes, DVD | |

inspiration and hope for the alcoholic Jul 30, 2011
By James C. Ward
"horror and sci-fi fan.."
Bishop Fulton Sheen is recorded in three separate lectures (1.5 hours total run time) he presented for television on the causes and cures for alcoholism. The lectures were recorded in the late '50's and early '60's.
I found them to be inspiring- especially in that Sheen addresses the spiritual aspects of the condition, and how a person needs an active spiritual life to cure the condition. He stresses the strong willingness that is needed for the patient to be sober- a desire to be sober. That, along with faith in God, can heal a person.
He gives personal actual stories of people he has known and relates how alcohol damaged their lives; and how their lives improved by being sober. Finally, he shows that in order to be sober, a person has to take responsibility for their sobriety.
