5POCKET GUIDE TO THE BIBLE - Be Informed  Jul 27, 2009 By Terry Fenwick
In A POCKET GUIDE TO THE BIBLE, after reading how the Bible came to be, the types of literature found within, and 'where to find' all the most important events in the Bible, Dr. Scott Hahn has given us a description for each of the Books of the Bible in a 'little' book so small that you can literally carry it in a pocket or handbag. I have them at home, in the car and in my book bag. Priced so economically, it is a great little gift for anyone. Personally, I buy them 10 at a time just to have them for last minute gifts! They fit in a 'greeting' card envelope with the card!

For Catholics, the Deuterocanonical books are clearly defined; for Protestants, that information is not wasted, as they will want to know what those 7 books are about when they speak with their Catholic friends.

Two examples for you - one for the Old Testament book of JOB and one for the New Testament book of 2 Thessalonians

JOB asks the most difficult question in all of philosophy: why do good people suffer? Job is prosperous and serves God faithfully. Satan, acting as a prosecutor in God's court, predicts that Job will curse God if he loses all his blessings. So Job loses everything, but he still will not curse God. However, he also refuses to admit that his downfall was the result of his sin, even when his friends try to persuade him to confess his unknown sin and pray to God for forgiveness. In he end, God himself vindicates Job, but Job can never hope to understand the reasons for his suffering. The wisdom and power of God are infinite and unsearchable.

2 Thessalonians reinforces the themes of 1 Thessalonians, clarifying teaching on Christ's return, and exhorting Christians to live orderly, normal lives of diligent work. He reminds them to hold fast to what they have been taught, either by writing or orally.

All the books are explained this clearly. Both younger and older people will treasure this book. There are many more helps in this POCKET GUIDE TO THE BIBLE. I just measured it and it is not even 1/16th of an inch thick.

5A Quick Overview of the Bible  Sep 13, 2008 By Michael Dubruiel "annunciations.wordpress.com"
Dr. Scott Hahn has done Catholics (and anyone seeking greater understanding) a great service by writing this pocket guide to the Bible. It is small enough to carry around with you, but packed with tons of useful information on the most sacred book of Christians.
The book is organized in a very usable manner, what the Bible is, what its made up of,who wrote it,how it relates to the Church, how to understand the Bible, a reading program for reading the Bible, an overview of all the books that make up the Bible, and an excellent topical reference section in the back of this compact 80 page book. This like the other Pocket Guide's published by Our Sunday Visitor are the perfect solution for those who want a quick update or explanation of the the Catholic Faith. A Pocket Guide to Catholic Apologetics andA Pocket Guide to Purgatory (A Pocket Guide to) (A Pocket Guide to) by Patrick Madrid offer great tools for those seeking the Biblical background of the Faith, Dr. Peter Kreeft's A Pocket Guide to The Meaning of Life (Pocket Guide Series)gives an insightful teaching on what life is all about, Fr. George Kosicki's A Pocket Guide to Divine Mercy (A Pocket Guide to)presents the most popular devotion to arise within the Catholic Church during the last century and finally my own contributions to the series A Pocket Guide to the Mass and A Pocket Guide to Confessionseek to answer all the questions that someone might have about both Sacraments.

5Pocket Guide to the Bible by Scott Hahn is very good  Oct 15, 2008 By Dorothea Webb
Pocket Guide to the Bible by Scott Hahn is very good. It is a very concise overview of the Bible, and it is written by a scholarly, Bible-based person who knows what he is talking about.

5Short and Sweet  Sep 05, 2008 By Andy
An easy yet thorough read of what the Bible is and is not from an authoritative professor of scripture. It can be read quickly over the course of an hour or two. It's an excellent primer for the novice. I like the last few pages with topical references. I have already given this book away!
